Caps Clinic purchased a vacant building in Phipps Close Deakin and engaged FM Projects to complete a base building upgrade including the installation of a lift to suit a medical facility with the inclusion of an operating theatre and room for 2 beds for overnight stays
The work included the total internal demolition of an existing building, installation of new services mechanical, Electrical, Fire, and medical gases. Additionally, a new lift was installed as the facility accommodated for disabled people. Administration, conference, and waiting rooms were also built and fitted out to a high standard
Key Challenges
Several key challengers were encountered on the project including differing floor heights on the ground floor, noise reduction screens for the medical and new mechanical plant, as well as the high level of services and detail in constructing an operating theatre with rooms for overnight patient care
A number of medical equipment items were transported from Perth WA which required intense programming and coordination
The project was completed on time and budget, with the project winning and Australian Institute of Building award in 2012.
